About Kate

This was our second time working with Kate, and her talent is evident in every shot we received. She is extremely easy to work with, and her sessions are relaxed, fun, and creative! I cannot say enough about the level of detail that is evident in each shot, as she perfectly captured not only the personality of my daughter in every frame but also the bond she shares with her horse. Thank you, Kate, for ensuring that I’ll always have such beautiful images of this special time.
— Kristen Beesaw
Kate has asked for my assistance in a few articles over the past few years. She is very attentive to listen, and also dig deeper with questions about the information given. When it comes to photo time, the camera is clicking wildly not to miss anything she can use to publish. Always with a smile on her face, conscientious and considerate to your time, Kate is a pleasure to work with.
— Sharon Wellmann
Kate took our engagement photos on location at a private ranch. She was extremely professional, so fun to work with and had creative ideas for multiple shots. I would highly recommend her photography work to anyone. Our photos our absolutely perfect!
— Lauren Lovelace Murray
Since entrusting Kate with the social media responsibilities for Bud Lyon Performance Horses, our content quality, volume, and interaction have skyrocketed. Kate’s dedication, creativity and experience have elevated our brand to new heights within public consciousness and she has become an indispensable member of our team.

Working with teenagers, dogs, and horses poses a challenge sometimes. Kate wrangled everyone and set up shots that we would have never thought of....so creative and professional. We love you Kate. Can’t wait to have you back to do more!

I'm a writer & photographer based near Fredericksburg, Texas.

Foremost, I tell stories. Whether through the written word or visually depicted, the subject speaks through my articles and images - at least that is the goal! In my years as a documentarian of the Western way of life, I learned that the best way to tell someone's story is to get to know them. What is just below the surface? That mentality runs true to my photography sessions. I strive to make each meeting fun, and while we are having a good time, I get the best information and images. My goal is to make people feel good about themselves and provide a memory that will last a lifetime - in a published article or a photo album. Plus, I just dig putting the spotlight on other people.

Writing and providing photographs for Western equine and lifestyle publications is my specialty. After serving as the communications manager for National Reined Cow Horse Association and also as managing editor of the NRCHA’s Reined Cow Horse News from 2018 until 2023, I stepped back into a full-time freelance role. Now, my focus is on managing Kate B Creative, my writing, photography and media branding company.

It has gives me a thrill each time I open a magazine to see a subjext I wrote about, or to see my photos used in ad campaigns. Shinging a light on others and their horses (and mules!) keeps me going!

In addition to writing and photography, I co-partner on The Freelance Remuda. Freelance Remuda began as a podcast about navigating the equine media frontier. With my co-host and seasoned freelancer, Abigail Boatwright, the podcast explores the trials and triumphs surrounding life as a freelancer in equine media, while sharing valuable tips from equine media editors and creatives doing what they love. Now, we offer MENTORSHIPS to fellow aspiring freelancers. Check out our mentorship offerings at freelanceremuda.com or download our brochure here

Our hope for the Freelance Remuda is to help train up a herd of professionals specializing in horses, from which editors and businesses in equine media can hire to do great work. Find and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, and for more information, go to freelanceremuda.com.

At Boss Mares, Inc., we dream big.

In 2023, I joined friends Anna Morrison and Patti Colbert in founding a 501c3 non-profit, Boss Mares, Inc. We set the bold goal of offering two Lead the Herd Workshops & awarding Business & Education Grants in 2024.

Audacious? Yes.
Achievable? Absolutely.

Lead the Herd Workshops will meet Western women where they are already gathering, bringing powerful expertise from in and outside of industry in a setting that supports high-impact learning and open dialog between presenters and attendees.

Business & Education Grants allow women entrepreneurs to call in personalized support where they need it most, providing a targeted leg up in key areas impacting professional success.
